Great news for those wishing to travel to Costa Rica!  In the ever changing times of Covid, Costa Rica has now announced that FULLY VACCINATED travelers are able to enter without purchasing the insurance previously required.  This change goes into effect August 1st, 2021.

How it works

In order to skip the insurance requirement, every vaccinated traveler will need to upload their vaccination certificate when completing the required Health Pass which can be found here.  The Health Pass can be completed in either English or Spanish and you will receive a QR code when completed (one per family).  This will be scanned at the airport and you can either use the electronic copy on your phone or bring a printed copy.  This pass also needs to be completed 48 hours of your arrival in Costa Rica.   All children 18 and younger are exempt from the vaccine requirement and will also not require insurance.   For those vaccinated it is important that the last dose was administered at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Costa Rica and the accepted vaccines are:  Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson only.  This is an important point to consider if you are one of the people traveling from Costa Rica to another country in order to obtain your vaccine.

As stated above this goes into effect August 1st.   If you are not fully vaccinated you will still need to purchase insurance for the entirety of your trip.  If you are fully vaccinated and your trip overlaps with August 1st you will still be required to purchase insurance for your entire stay.  As an example, your trip dates are from July 29 to August 15th,  you will be required to purchase insurance for the entire length of your stay, not only until August 1st.  If you buy only 2 days insurance you will receive an entry stamp for the same number of days.

Aside from the Health Pass and vaccine certificates, travelers will also still need to meet all the other entry requirements which you can read more about here.
