Few New Measures Announced to Contain COVID-19

The government announced today a few changes to the country-wide measures to contain the COVID-19 contagions. The main change is the extension of the sanitary vehicle restriction during weekdays all over the country.

This means the restrictions by plate will come back starting tomorrow, May 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for the list of exceptions that you can check here. The distribution by plates will be the following: 

  • Monday: plates ending in 1 and 2 cannot circulate.
  • Tuesday: 3 and 4
  • Wednesday: 5 and 6
  • Thursday: 7 and 8
  • Friday: 9 and 0
  • Saturday: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
  • Sunday: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0

Businesses are allowed to operate normally from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Sunday.

Beaches will remain open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The new measures aim to limit the size of activities and include:

  • Academic and business activities allowed with 150 people.
  • Social events allowed with 30 people.
  • Religious activities allowed with 200 people.
  • Bars may operate at 25% capacity.
  • Hotels with more than 100 rooms may operate at 75% capacity.
  • National Parks may operate at 50% capacity, except for the Poás Volcano National Park, which remains at 100% as it is already operating at a limited capacity.

President Carlos Alvarado also announced the purchase of 2 million vaccines in addition to the previous 7 million doses, in an effort to accelerate the vaccination process in the country.

    Will you be able to fly to the US this weekend in order or get the COVID Vaccine and then be able to re-enter Costa Rica the following week? This person lives here but is o a tourist visa
